Job Purpose 

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides Christ-centered executive leadership and strategic financial oversight for YUGM. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the CFO ensures the organization's financial integrity, sustainability, and readiness for growth in a predominantly donor-funded environment. The CFO oversees financial planning, forecasting, cash flow management, and risk management while serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors. This role partners across the ministry to align financial strategy with organizational priorities, strengthen stewardship, support mission impact, and foster long-term organizational health.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities  

1.  Executive Leadership & Organizational Influence 

     a. Serves as an active member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to organizational strategy and decision-making. 

     b. Collaborate with executive leaders to align ministry goals, operational priorities, and financial resources.   

     c. Help equip organizational leaders with financial understanding, accountability, and decision-making support. 

     d. Promote healthy communication, trust, and collaboration across departments. 

     e. Champion organizational change initiatives and continuous improvement efforts. 

     f. Model servant leadership and foster a culture consistent with YUGM’s mission, vision, and leadership expectations.  

2.  Strategic Financial Leadership  

     a. Lead multi-year financial planning, including revenue projections, expense modeling, and capital planning. 

     b. Develop scenario-based financial strategies (expected, downside, and growth cases). 

     c. Translate program and ministry initiatives into financially sustainable models. 

     d. Provide proactive insight into financial risks and opportunities. 

3.  Financial Management & Operational Oversight 

     a. Oversee all financial operations including: 

           - Accounting and general ledger 

           - Budgeting and financial reporting 

           - Payroll and accounts payable/receivable 

           - Cash management and liquidity planning 

           - Grants and restricted fund tracking 

     b. Ensure compliance with: 

           - GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards 

           - Donor intent and restrictions 

           - Regulatory and audit requirements 

     c. Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure transparency. 

     d. Lead the annual audit process and serve as primary liaison with auditors. 

4.  Revenue Forecasting & Financial Discipline 

     a. Lead excellence in revenue forecasting within a donor-funded ministry model. 

     b. Develop and maintain forecasting processes that provide timely, accurate, and actionable revenue projections for

         organizational decision-making. 

     c. Ensure revenue projections are realistic, defensible, grounded in historical data and donor trends, and adjusted for

         seasonality typical of Union Gospel Missions.  

     d. Establish and enforce clear revenue classification standards that are committed, anticipated, and aspirational. 

     e. Protect the organization from overreliance on uncertain or one-time revenue. 

5.  Cash Flow & Financial Stability 

     a. Maintain a rolling 12-month cash flow forecast. 

     b. Maintain adequate liquidity and proactively identify potential cash flow challenges arising from seasonal fluctuations or

         changing revenue conditions. 

     c. Develop and monitor reserve targets and liquidity policies. 

     d. Recommend contingency actions when financial conditions shift. 

6.  Partnership with Development (Fundraising) 

     a. Serves as a strategic partner to the Development Director while maintaining clear role distinction. 

     b. Collaborate on revenue projections and forecast assumptions. 

     c. Provide: 

           - Financial analysis of campaign goals 

           - Risk assessment of revenue assumptions 

           - Cash timing projections 

     d. Ensure the organization presents one unified revenue forecast to the CEO and Board. 

7.  Growth Planning & Capital Readiness 

     a. Evaluate financial readiness for: 

           - Program expansion 

           - Increased shelter capacity 

           - Recovery or discipleship program growth 

           - New locations or service models 

     b. Lead financial analysis for:  

           - Capital campaigns 

           - Facility development or renovation 

           - Major strategic initiatives 

     c. Ensure growth decisions are supported by sound financial analysis, sustainable funding strategies, and appropriate risk

         assessment.   

8.  Board Engagement 

     a. Serve as the primary financial liaison to the Board of Directors and Finance Committee.  

     b. Partner with the Finance Committee to provide financial oversight, strategic guidance, and stewardship of organization

         resources as needed.   

     c. Provide the Board, Finance Committee, and executive leadership with clear, accurate, and insightful financial reporting,

         including budget performance, revenue trends, cash position, key risks, and strategic recommendations. 

     d. Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for non-financial leaders. 

     e. Build and maintain strong board confidence through consistency and transparency. 

9.  Team Leadership & Organization Culture 

     a. Lead, develop, and mentor the finance team with excellence and accountability. 

     b. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and high standards. 

     c. Build strong working relationships across departments to support organizational effectiveness and stewardship. 

     d. Reinforce a ministry-wide culture of financial stewardship and accountability.

Working Conditions

Primary duties of this position are performed in a well-lit, climate-controlled environment.  The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.  Must be able to handle a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.  Some travel between Mission sites and community locations.

Salary Description 95,000-125,000 annually
