ABOUT RISEWELL COMMUNITY SERVICES
RiseWell Community Services is an innovative multi-service, community-based social wellness agency. For over 50 years, we have been a major provider of health and wellness services, senior and children’s care, addiction recovery services, as well as affordable housing and support. RiseWell currently services Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Nassau County and Suffolk County.
SUMMARY OF THE ROLE
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors, providing vision, leadership, and oversight for all financial operations of RiseWell Community Services (over 550 employees on staff). The CFO ensures sound financial planning, compliance, accountability, and sustainability across a rapidly growing portfolio of programs and funding sources.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement long-term financial strategies aligned with the agency’s mission, growth, and evolving service portfolio.
- Provide strategic guidance to executive leadership and the Board on fiscal policy, capital planning, and organizational investments.
- Lead and mentor a finance and accounting team of 30 staff.
- Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of the following reports or schedules: Consolidated Fiscal Report (CFR), Consolidated Budget Report (CBR), Consolidated Quarterly Report (CQR), Consolidated Claim Report (CCR), Quarterly Payroll Filings, US Information Return Form 990 and NYS Department of Law Form 497, Form 5500, Annual Corporate Budget.
- Present timely, accurate and insightful reports at quarterly meetings of Board.
- Supervise monthly and annual closings of the accounting books.
- Analyze monthly financial statements; investigate and resolve any material budget variances.
- Oversee the preparation of department budgets, modifications and LS-3 reporting.
- Provide regular budget analysis for individual departments.
- Oversee computerized accounting system including general ledger, payroll and pension.
- Strengthen and maintain internal control systems.
- Interface with government officials, bankers, attorneys, insurance brokers and independent auditors.
- Supervise the administration of the Pension Plan and the Section 125 Medical Plan.
- Represent RiseWell at conferences and meetings at the request of Executive Management.
- Negotiate and monitor property related transactions between Housing Department and RiseWell.
- Monitor all agency insurance policies to include liability, fire, theft, vehicle, board and directors.
- Review the Department of Transportation budget once completed by the Director of Finance and ensure adherence to all financial requirements on an annual basis.
- Comply with agency Compliance Plan and False Claims Policy by preventing, detecting and reporting any potential healthcare abuse and fraud.
- Remain current on changing developments in nonprofit financial regulations and compliance.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALITIES
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and provide financial leadership in a dynamic, mission-driven organization.
- Deep knowledge of Medicaid and familiarity with state agencies such as OASAS, OMH, DOH.
- Past responsibility for comparable budgets (60M) and finance teams of 10+ staff
- Proven ability to lead and mentor finance teams and optimize systems and processes to ensure the accuracy of all numbers coming out of the department.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills across departments.
- Ability to prepare and present clear, concise, and accurate financial reports, including the CFR.
- Detail oriented and accurate.
- Ability to manage time, multi-task and delegate authority when necessary.
- A proactive professional who is adaptable, approachable, and compassionate.
- Collaborative approach as part of executive team.
- Proficient in required accounting software, including Concur and ADP.
- Knowledge of general business law.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree; CPA required.
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in finance leadership roles within nonprofit, healthcare, or human services sectors.
- Broad experience across accounting, finance, grants, compliance, and risk management.
- Background in both strategic planning and hands-on financial operations.
- Familiarity with low income tax credits and affordable housing a plus.
