About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance, the Chief Accountant plays a key role at the heart of the finance function and acts as a true business partner to leadership. Beyond overseeing accounting operations and ensuring the production of accurate and compliant financial information, this role offers strong exposure to strategic initiatives, financial planning (budgeting and forecasting), and performance analysis.
This position is ideal for a professional who wants to go beyond a traditional accounting role and actively contribute to transforming the finance function, particularly through automation, process optimization, and the use of analytical and AI-driven solutions. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the full accounting cycle and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (IFRS, ASPE, or others).
- Prepare, review, and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and period-end analyses.
- Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
- Analyze variances against budgets and forecasts, explain key drivers, and provide value-added recommendations.
- Play a key role in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, working closely with leadership.
- Establish, maintain, and improve internal controls and financial policies.
- Identify financial risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor cash flow, prepare cash flow forecasts, and contribute to liquidity optimization.
- Manage banking relationships and credit facilities.
- Plan and coordinate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes within tight deadlines.
- Prepare audit files, collaborate with internal and external auditors, and follow up on recommendations.
- Actively contribute to optimizing financial processes and implementing or enhancing financial systems and ERP tools.
- Deliver advanced financial analyses to support decision-making and business initiatives.
Profile We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation required.
- 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in financial accounting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards (IFRS, ASPE).
- Solid expertise in financial analysis, internal controls, and business acumen.
- Experience with ERP systems and a strong interest in automation and emerging technologies.
- Advanced Excel skills; interest in analytical tools and AI is a strong asset.
- Detail-oriented, autonomous, analytical mindset, and ability to thrive in a fast-evolving environment.
- Excellent communication skills in both French and English.
