VP of Finance / Senior Controller

Location: Rhode Island | Full-Time | Onsite

The Hire is partnering with an established, privately held Rhode Island company to identify an experienced VP of Finance / Senior Controller. This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys operating at both the strategic and hands-on levels.

Reporting to executive leadership, this individual will serve as the organization’s senior financial leader, overseeing financial strategy, forecasting, reporting, accounting operations, cash flow and working capital while serving as a trusted advisor to ownership. The original role also carries responsibility for capital strategy, banking relationships, inventory accounting and the monthly close.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead financial planning, forecasting, budgeting and long-term financial strategy
• Partner with executive leadership on growth initiatives, capital allocation and business planning
• Manage cash flow, working capital, liquidity and debt strategies
• Oversee monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting and the month-end close
• Analyze revenue, margins, cost of goods sold and operating expenses
• Provide oversight of inventory accounting and investigate inventory variances
• Manage relationships with banking partners, auditors, lenders and other external financial partners
• Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and general accounting functions
• Establish and maintain strong internal controls and ensure appropriate tax and regulatory compliance
• Prepare financial reporting and analysis for executive leadership and external stakeholders
• Evaluate accounting systems, processes and ERP capabilities and identify opportunities for automation and improved efficiency
• Provide leadership, mentorship and direction to the accounting and finance team

The position calls for someone capable of combining executive-level financial leadership with controller-level execution, rather than operating solely at a strategic level.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
• Significant experience in a Controller, VP of Finance or comparable senior financial leadership role
• Strong hands-on accounting and financial reporting expertise
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
• CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred
• Experience within a privately held or closely held organization is highly desirable
• Experience with inventory, product-based businesses, distribution or similar operational environments is a plus
• Asset-based lending experience is a plus
• Strong leadership, communication and relationship-management skills
• Ability to communicate financial information effectively to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
