Chief Financial Officer (CFO) - Richmond, Virginia
ProspectBlue is partnering with a rapidly growing, industry-leading professional services organization to identify a strategic and hands-on Chief Financial Officer. This executive leadership role offers the opportunity to work directly with the CEO to drive financial strategy, support acquisitions, scale operations, and position the company for long-term growth and value creation.
The CFO will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, balancing strategic vision with operational execution. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in mergers and acquisitions, financial planning and analysis, capital strategy, and business transformation, while also possessing strong accounting expertise to oversee financial reporting and partner closely with the Controller.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Finance & Executive Leadership:
- Serve as a strategic advisor and thought partner to the CEO and executive leadership team.
- Develop and execute the company’s long-term financial strategy.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and KPI development.
- Provide actionable insights to support growth, profitability, and operational decision-making.
- Build financial models and scenario analyses to evaluate strategic opportunities.
Mergers & Acquisitions:
- Identify, evaluate, and support acquisition opportunities.
- Lead financial due diligence, valuation analysis, and transaction execution.
- Coordinate with lenders, attorneys, accountants, and external advisors.
- Develop and execute post-acquisition integration plans.
- Create reporting structures to monitor acquisition performance and synergy realization.
Capital Markets & Exit Readiness:
- Support debt financing, recapitalizations, and strategic growth initiatives.
- Build investor-quality financial reporting and board-level presentations.
- Prepare the organization for future liquidity events, strategic transactions, or private equity investment.
- Lead relationships with banking partners and external financial stakeholders.
Accounting & Financial Operations:
- Partner closely with the Controller to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Strengthen internal controls, policies, and financial processes.
- Improve visibility into cash flow, working capital, and profitability drivers.
Leadership & Team Development:
- Build and mentor a high-performing finance organization.
- Develop scalable financial infrastructure to support continued growth.
- Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required.
- CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience.
- Significant experience leading M&A transactions, due diligence, and post-close integrations.
- Experience working in a high-growth, entrepreneurial, private equity-backed, or founder-led environment.
- Strong understanding of accounting, financial reporting, and operational finance.
- Demonstrated success partnering with CEOs and executive leadership teams.
- Exceptional financial modeling and analytical skills.
- Experience leading organizations through periods of rapid growth and change.
Preferred Experience:
- Professional services, legal services, healthcare services, business services, technology-enabled services, or marketing/creative services experience.
- Experience preparing companies for a sale, recapitalization, or private equity transaction.
- Prior experience integrating acquired businesses.
