Cash Application Specialist

GENERAL SUMMARY

Provides financial, administrative and clerical support to the organization as it relates to the processing and application of payments to customer accounts to ensure accurate data and reports are provided to clients and management.  Processes lockbox, ACH and other automated payment files as well as any returned or overpayment customer checks. Provides customer service support thru telephone and email response and problem resolution directly with customers. Provides back up to Billing Specialist, as needed. Maintains financial security by following internal accounting procedures.  

This position will be with Stratacor, an affiliate of Delta Dental of Minnesota.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Process lockbox and other special deposit transactions using PeopleSoft and other proprietary software
2. Verify ACH/Direct Debit totals and check issue totals with banking institutions
3. Process overpayment and/or provider or customer returned checks
4. Reconcile accounting data including general ledger, bank statements and customer accounts
5. Provide quality customer support for incoming inquiries through phone, email, or mail
6. Provide backup support to the Billing Specialist position
7. Continue to improve internal processes by identifying and implementing, as approved, changes to processes
8. Maintain accurate historical records management
9. Special Projects, as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Required:

1. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with team members at all levels and with brokers and agents
2. Effective customer service and phone skills
3. Effective analytical skills with Financial/Accounting related data
4. Proven computer skills including spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel) and word processing (Microsoft Word)
5. Must possess the ability to effectively organize and prioritize workload and manage time accordingly
6. Ability to work collaboratively with other team members and to work well under deadlines

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

1. Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent training

 Preferred:

1. 1-2 years of previous related experience in an Accounting and/or cash processing experience
2. Experience with financial systems such as PeopleSoft and/or automated billing systems

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Travel Requirements: Minimal
2. Weight Lifting Requirements: 20 lbs.
3. Sedentary Work: Prolonged periods of sitting at a workstation while working at a computer.

1. Reports To: Billing Supervisor
2. Directly Manages: None
3. Internal Relationships: Stratacor and Affiliate Companies; Accounting and Finance staff; all levels of personnel from other corporate divisions
4. External Relationships: Vendors, Customers

The starting salary range for this position is $23.00 to $29.00 per hour. Salary offers will typically be made in the listed range. The Company takes into consideration a candidate's education, training, and experience, as well as the position's work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including merit process and internal pay alignment when determining the salary for potential new team members. In compliance with state and federal regulations, a potential new team member's salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
