Business Unit Accounting Manager
A growing, national services organization is seeking a Business Unit Accounting Manager to serve as a key financial partner to operational leadership and the corporate finance organization. This individual will have responsibility for the accounting and financial performance of a significant operating business, with a strong focus on project accounting, revenue recognition, profitability, cash flow, and operational decision support.
This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys being close to the business and wants broader exposure than a traditional corporate accounting role. The position will work directly with senior and operational leaders, providing financial insight into project performance, business trends, profitability, and growth opportunities.
Key Responsibilities

Serve as the primary accounting and financial partner for an operating business unit, providing leadership with timely financial analysis, reporting, and decision support.
Manage and oversee revenue recognition in accordance with U.S. GAAP and ASC 606, with particular focus on percentage-of-completion/project-based accounting.
Partner closely with Operations to review costs incurred to date, estimates to complete, project forecasts, and change orders, ensuring accurate revenue recognition and visibility into project performance.
Monitor and analyze project-level billing, unbilled revenue, accounts receivable, cash flow, capital spending, and profitability, identifying risks and opportunities to improve financial performance.
Prepare and analyze actual and projected financial results across projects of varying size, scope, and contract structure, proactively identifying trends, financial risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Review business-unit financial results with senior leadership, providing insight into revenue, margins, liquidity, financial trends, operating performance, and growth.
Develop sophisticated Excel-based financial analyses, models, and reporting tools to support operational and strategic decision-making.
Support the preparation of monthly operating reports, financial scorecards, forecasts, and management reporting for business-unit and corporate leadership.
Partner with operational leaders to evaluate the financial impact of key business decisions and recommend actions to strengthen profitability, cash flow, and overall financial performance.
Support internal controls, financial compliance, audit activities, and other accounting initiatives as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline required; Accounting degree strongly preferred.
5+ years of progressive Accounting or Finance experience, ideally within a project-based, construction, infrastructure, engineering, field services, or similar operating environment.
3+ years of construction or project accounting experience strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ASC 606, including percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
Strong understanding of project financials, including WIP, A/R, unbilled revenue, estimates to complete, billing, cash flow, and profitability.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to develop and interpret detailed financial analyses.
Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with Operations and senior business leaders and translate financial results into actionable business insights.
CPA and/or MBA preferred but not required.
Strong communication, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
