Our corporate team provides accounting, marketing, purchasing, operational, and management support to our retail locations. We are seeking an experienced Book Keep / Accountant to join our collaborative and team-oriented corporate office in Sherman Oaks.
The ideal candidate has strong full-cycle accounting experience, knowledge of California cannabis taxation and retail accounting, and the ability to lead key accounting functions in a highly regulated, cash-intensive industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead accounts payable and payroll functions.
- Maintain the general ledger, prepare journal entries, and oversee full-cycle bookkeeping.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, cash activity, merchant processing statements, and balance-sheet accounts.
- Reconcile daily point-of-sale activity, store cash logs, deposits, income, and expenses.
- Manage monthly cannabis excise tax requirements and CDTFA compliance.
- Prepare quarterly sales and use tax filings and applicable local municipal cannabis tax filings.
- Support tax preparation and compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
- Apply knowledge of IRC Section 280E and appropriate cost-of-goods-sold allocations.
- Reconcile retail inventory records against Metrc and the company’s point-of-sale and seed-to-sale systems.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements, balance sheets, cash-flow projections, and management reports.
- Analyze financial records and statements for discrepancies, unusual activity, and opportunities to improve accuracy.
- Provide month-to-date trend reporting and financial analysis to management.
- Recommend opportunities to reduce costs, strengthen controls, and enhance revenue.
- Coordinate semiannual audits and maintain organized, audit-ready financial records.
- Reconstruct or correct historical accounting records when necessary.
- Develop and maintain effective internal accounting and cash-control procedures.
- Delegate responsibilities and provide direction to members of the accounting team.
- Lead weekly accounting team meetings.
- Protect confidential financial, employee, and company information.
Qualifications and Skills
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Strong knowledge of California cannabis accounting, taxation, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated experience with CDTFA filings, cannabis excise taxes, sales and use taxes, and local cannabis tax filings.
- Understanding of IRS Section 280E and cannabis retail COGS allocations.
- Experience reconciling high-volume retail cash activity and point-of-sale transactions.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial analysis.
- At least four years of experience using QuickBooks Desktop.
- Experience with cannabis point-of-sale or seed-to-sale systems; Blaze and Metrc experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead, delegate, and support an accounting team.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain audit-ready records.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
- Previous accounting experience in a senior or leadership-level position preferred.
- At least three years of cannabis retail accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Experience working in a multi-location retail environment is highly desirable.

This is a full-time, in-office position based in Sherman Oaks. This position is not remote or hybrid.
