Billing Specialist Summary
The Billing Specialist is responsible for preparing and distributing invoices and billing statements on assigned accounts, whilst ensuring compliance with all internally established standard operating procedures (SOPs). The Billing Specialists work in conjunction with accounting clerks, A/R specialists, collections specialists, and department management.
General Duties/Responsibilities
- Verify the accuracy of billing data, correcting any errors.
- Create itemized statements, bills, and invoices.
- Contact external representatives to obtain, verify, and update account information when necessary.
- Enter key data of financial transactions daily into databases and spreadsheets.
- Reconcile customer accounts in a timely manner.
- Provide accounting assistance and training support to other department team members.
- Research, track, and restore documentation discrepancies.
- Function in accordance with established standards, procedures, and applicable laws.
- Perform all daily duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
Required Skills/Abilities
- Basic understanding of clerical and administrative procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to solve problems as they arise and maintain confidentiality.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, such as QuickBooks – Desktop.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
- 1-3 years of prior billing, accounts receivable, or accounts payable experience preferred.
Monday - Friday: 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. 40 hours/week (mandatory, in office position)
