An exciting opportunity awaits you with Northern California Fertility Medical Center (NCFMC), a leading fertility practice in the Northern California area! Our Sacramento location is seeking a full-time, on site, Billing Specialist.
General Summary of Duties: Responsible for the activities associated with the billing function. Responsible for using collection techniques to keep accounts receivable current including monitoring for delinquent payments.
Essential Functions:
- Gathers data on daily, monthly and yearly basis to determine status of clinic patient accounts.
- Posts payments.
- Monitors private pay patient accounts for delinquent payments and determines course of action.
- Follows clinic collection policy and guidelines and refers to collection agency upon physician approval.
- Uses collection management reports to keep accounts receivable current.
- Uses telephone, mail, and other techniques to aid in collection accounts receivable.
- Runs routine insurance claim forms and statements weekly per cycle.
- Appeals underpaid, denied, or pended claims.
- Requests, send refund checks to patients/insurance companies.
- Answers inquiries and correspondence from patients and insurance companies; develops collection letters.
- Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints. Researches credit balances.
- Back up to front office, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience: Minimum three years of collection experience in a health care organization.
Education: High School diploma. Associate degree in healthcare or business administration preferred.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices, ICD-9 and CPT coding.
- Knowledge of computer programs, spreadsheets, and applications.
- Knowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of legal regulatory government provisions.
Skills:
- Skill in using computer programs, spreadsheets, and applications for credit entry, retrieval, and modification.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective internal and external working relationships.
Abilities:
- Ability to understand and interpret credit policies and regulations.
- Ability to respond to patients on credit matters in courteous fashion.
- Ability to examine medical documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Ability to enter data accurately and examine insurance documents.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly.
Environmental/Working Conditions:
Fast-paced conditions involving multiple tasks and personnel interface. Involves frequent in-person and telephone contact with patients. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive.
Physical/Mental Demands:
Work may require manual dexterity for telephone, computer keyboard, and office machine operation, stooping and bending to files and supplies, sitting for extended periods of time.
