THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking an Associate Director, Tax and Accounting to lead and manage the Company’s tax function while partnering closely with external tax advisors. This role is responsible for overseeing tax provision, compliance, and risk management processes performed by third-party providers, ensuring high-quality execution, accuracy, and alignment with Company objectives.
In addition to tax responsibilities, this position will play a key role in supporting the accounting for the Company’s collaboration agreements, including analysis, documentation, and coordination with cross-functional stakeholders.
This is a high-impact individual contributor role requiring strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively manage external advisors while partnering across Finance, Legal and Operations/Development.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Tax Provision & Reporting
- Oversee the quarterly and annual income tax provision process, including review of calculations prepared by external tax service providers.
- Review technical analyses related to uncertain tax positions, valuation allowances, and tax implications of complex transactions.
- Ensure accurate and timely tax disclosures for SEC filings.
- Maintain documentation and internal controls supporting the tax provision process.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Oversee global income tax compliance prepared by external service providers.
- Manage external tax advisors to ensure high-quality, cost-effective support.
- Maintain tax-related internal controls in compliance with SOX requirements.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and assess Company impact.
Collaboration Accounting Support
- Support accounting for collaboration and licensing arrangements, including the initial operationalization.
- Assist with revenue recognition, cost-sharing, and milestone accounting.
Tax Operations & Advisory
- Serve as the Company’s internal lead for tax matters coordinating external consultants.
- Provide guidance to internal stakeholders leveraging external advisors.
Other Responsibilities
- Manage the Company’s corporate insurance program.
- Support government related inquiries including census bureau questionnaires.
WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA or advanced tax degree (e.g., MST, JD/LLM in Tax) strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in tax and/or accounting.
- Understanding of ASC 740.
- Hands-on, “roll up your sleeves” approach; comfortable operating as a tax resource with assistance from service providers, the Chief Accounting Officer and Senior Director of Technical Accounting and SEC Reporting.
- Demonstrated experience as the lead owner of the tax provision and global tax compliance, either in-house or as managing external advisors.
- Biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience, ideally with experience supporting commercialization activities, is preferred
WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE OFFER
The expected salary range for this position is $162,500.00 to $227,500.00 per year. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
