The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT), is currently recruiting for an Associate Accountant position in the Bureau of Finance and Administration, Office of Finance, Division of Financial Management and Support.  The Office of Finance is comprised of three divisions (Budge Services, Capital Services, and Financial Management & Support) that provide business and financial support, budgeting, accounting, accounts receivable, and Federal and State funding management necessary to meet the needs of CTDOT. The opportunity is available to current agency employees.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS THE ROLE The Associate Accountant position provides financial support for the Office of Policy and Planning. The role provides high-level accounting and budgeting services for the Highway Safety Office (HSO). The HSO funds and produces extensive research projects exploring traffic safety issues, crashes, fatalities, and driver behavior. HSO programs are funded or subsidized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Office (NHTSA). The position will report directly to the unit supervisor and will be responsible for complex financial assignments and overseeing staff. The position will also plan, assign, and review the work of professional-level employees. The selected candidate should have excellent communication and organizational skills as well as the ability to build and maintain professional working relationships with internal staff within the Department and external third parties. Selection Plan

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for performing the most complex accounting tasks within a variety of accounting programs and systems. This class may also be accountable for lead or consultative responsibility.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Seven (7) years of experience in accounting or auditing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

One (1) year of the General Experience must have been at the level of an Accountant, an Auditor or an Accounts Examiner with responsibility for the exercise of independent analysis and judgement in the application of professional accounting principles and practices.
