Strittmatter Companies is seeking a highly organized and experienced Assistant Controller to lead their accounting operations and ensure financial accuracy across their growing organization. This role is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, internal controls, and managing a detailed payroll process. This position is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands accounting practices, and takes pride in accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee daily accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and job cost accounting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards
- Manage cash flow forecasting and financial analysis
- Support leadership with financial insights and reporting
Payroll Administration
- Oversee and execute the payroll process including hourly employees and salaried staff
- Ensure accurate tracking of hours, overtime, and job costing allocations
- Verify certified payroll compliance where applicable
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Coordinate payroll taxes and deductions with benefit providers
Compliance & Process Management
- Ensure compliance with accounting practices and labor regulations
- Manage audits and work with external CPA partners
- Maintain financial policies and procedures
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting and payroll processes
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of accounting experience with leadership responsibility
- Experience managing manual or complex payroll processes
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting systems
- Ability to handle confidential financial and employee data
Preferred:
- Construction industry experience
- Experience with job costing and WIP reporting
- CPA or CPA track preferred
- Experience with certified payroll
