We are looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented, friendly and energetic Assistant Controller to join our team and help power our next phase of growth.
Position Summary
The Assistant Controller serves as a key leader in the accounting function at Wiles Companies, responsible for supervising daily financial operations, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, and supporting the integrity of all accounting practices. This role provides guidance and direction to the accounting team, ensuring departmental deadlines and performance standards are consistently met through effective delegation, communication, and oversight.
The Assistant Controller plays a hands-on role in monitoring core accounting processes such as payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations. They also assist with month-end close procedures, including journal entries and account reconciliations, and contribute to the preparation of accurate financial statements. Additional duties include monitoring cash flow, supporting internal audits, improving process efficiency, and helping formulate internal controls and policies in accordance with GAAP.
This position is well-suited for an experienced accounting professional with strong leadership capabilities, technical expertise, and a keen eye for detail. The ideal candidate brings a collaborative mindset, the ability to handle confidential information with discretion, and the flexibility to backfill for the Controller as needed.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the accounting team and ensure that deadlines are met
- Provide leadership to the accounting team through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication
- Monitor and review daily accounting activities including payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable (bank reconciliations and daily store data entry)
- Assist with financial statement preparation to include account reconciliations and month-end journal entries
- Monitor cash flow projections
- Suggest process improvements and work on special projects as required
- Participate in the preparation for annual audits
- Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies
- Assist Controller with sales tax filings
- Backfill for Controller as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in accounting or related field
- 3 years of relevant accounting experience
- 2+ years of supervisory experience a plus
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
- Attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping and reporting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (with an emphasis on Excel)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information
- High level of integrity and professionalism

Work Environment
This is a 100% onsite role based in our Albuquerque, NM headquarters.
No travel is required.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm
