    JOB DESCRIPTION


    Position Title: School Nutrition Coordinator - Procurement
    Department: Operations
    Level/Grade: Administrator
    FLSA Class: Exempt /12 Month

    Location: Warehouse
    Reports to: Food Service Director
    Type of Position: FTE 1.0

    Summary:

    The School Nutrition Coordinator � Procurement is responsible for coordinating procurement activities for the District's Child Nutrition Programs while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local
    purchasing regulations. This position oversees food, beverage, supply, and equipment procurement, manages the nutrition database system, supports menu planning, and maintains product information necessary for accurate nutritional analysis and regulatory compliance. The Coordinator works collaboratively with school nutrition managers, vendors, distributors, and administrative staff to ensure uninterrupted operations, high-quality products, and fiscally responsible purchasing practices.

    Responsibilities:

    •    Coordinate procurement activities for food, beverages, supplies, small equipment, and other operational
       needs for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), Summer Food
     Service Program (SFSP), and other Child Nutrition Programs.
    •    Serve as the primary liaison between school nutrition managers, distributors, manufacturers, brokers, and
     vendors regarding product ordering, substitutions, shortages, recalls, and delivery concerns.
    •    Monitor inventory levels, product availability, and purchasing trends to ensure efficient operations and
    minimize waste.
    •    Collaborate with the Director of School Nutrition and leadership team to forecast purchasing needs, develop
     procurement strategies, manage USDA Foods allocations, and maximize entitlement utilization.
    •    Maintain accurate purchasing records, purchase orders, invoices, bid documentation, and procurement files
      in accordance with USDA, Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), district, and audit requirements.
    •     Investigate and resolve issues related to product quality, shortages, damaged shipments, pricing
     discrepancies, credits, and vendor performance.
    •     Maintain the department's nutrition database by entering and updating product information, nutrient
     analysis, allergen information, Child Nutrition (CN) Labels, Product Formulation Statements (PFS),
       ingredient statements, and other required documentation.
    •    Ensure nutritional information within the database remains current and supports menu planning, production
     records, special dietary accommodations, and nutrient analysis.
    •     Assist with maintaining standardized recipes, menu production records, and menu analysis within the
    nutrition management software.
    •     Participate in evaluating new food products, conducting product testing, recipe development, and menu
     improvement initiatives.
    •    Coordinate product transitions and communicate purchasing changes to school nutrition managers and
      department staff.
    •    Support district wellness initiatives by assisting with menu development and procurement of products that
     align with district wellness goals.
    •    Maintain current knowledge of USDA procurement regulations, Child Nutrition Program requirements, food
     safety standards, and industry best practices.
    •    Ensure compliance with all applicable USDA, ISBE, local health department, district purchasing policies,
     and HACCP food safety regulations.

    •    Assist with department projects, administrative initiatives, and special assignments as directed by the
      Director of School Nutrition.
    •    Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of School Nutrition.

    Qualifications:

    •    High school diploma or equivalent.
    •     Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in food service procurement, purchasing,
     inventory management, or school nutrition operations.
    •     Holds a Food Service Manager Certification or the ability to obtain certification within the required timeframe
      (e.g SERV Safe�).
    •     Valid Illinois driver' s license with the ability to travel between district locations.
    •     Knowledge of procurement regulations and nutritional requirements as it relates to the Federal guidelines
     under the Child Nutrition Programs preferred.
    •     Strong analytical, organizational, problem solving and communication skills.
    •    Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, managers, vendors, and district personnel.
    •    Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
    •     Employee must be able to:
    •    Operate a vehicle and hold a valid driver's license.
    •    Lift at least 25-50 pounds on a regular basis.
    •    Ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer work.
    •    Ability to work in temperature extremes.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    •    Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Service Management, Business Administration, Supply Chain
      Management, or a closely related field.
    •     Experience with USDA Child Nutrition Programs and federal procurement regulations.
    •     Experience using Mosaic school nutrition management software for menu planning, nutrient analysis,
     purchasing, or inventory management.
    •    Knowledge of USDA Foods ordering and entitlement management.


    Compensation:  
    Per the 2026-2027 Salary Schedule, the starting pay range is $44,440- $58,270 and is based upon experience.
