Job Description
This position is responsible for ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of the college’s financial transactions while providing support to employees, vendors, and campus departments in navigating key business processes. The role oversees accounts payable for approximately 400 vendors, including verifying purchase authority, confirming budget availability and approvals, assigning appropriate cost center allocations, and maintaining accurate financial records in Workday.
Additional responsibilities include cash handling for the Staples Bookstore and Business Office, performing reconciliations, coordinating and recording a variety of accounting transactions, processing cash settlements, and executing bank transfers within Workday.
Through strong communication, excellent customer service, technical expertise, and consistent adherence to policies and regulations, this position supports the efficiency, accuracy, and integrity of the Business Services operations. The role also provides backup support, participates in special projects, and assists with operational needs to strengthen the college’s financial stewardship and administrative effectiveness.
Salary Range:
$23.31-32.94/hour, $48,671-68,779 annually
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of basic business and governmental accounting sufficient to analyze, interpret, and prepare financial information, records and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems.
Knowledge of the MinnState accounting systems, or other private or governmental accounting systems, sufficient to query and compile records and reports, and to process financial and other transactions.
Skills in math sufficient to calculate, review and reconcile data, and balance accounts.
Working knowledge of electronic spreadsheets, database management, word processing software, computers, and other office equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
Customer service skills sufficient to provide courteous and efficient service and ability to communicate effectively with customers including the public, students, and employees of other state agencies, sufficient to explain policies and procedures and deal with complaints from clients who may be hostile, confused, or agitated.
Preferred Qualification
Two-year accounting degree or three (3) years of equivalent experience.
Analytical thinking and high attention to detail with ability to understand and effectively carry out complex oral and written directions.
Time management and organizational skills sufficient to organize workload and meet deadlines while ensuring records are accurate and retrievable when necessary.
Ability to multi-task and quickly adapt to changes in policies, processes, procedures, and priorities.
Working knowledge of laws, policies, procedures, and Legislative Auditor, Department of Finance, and State Treasurer requirements for completing assigned job responsibilities.
Ability to mentor, train, and educate others during intense periods of change.
