Location: This is a full-time position located in Augusta.

Core Responsibilities:

The DHHS Financial Service Center is seeking an Accounting Assistant Technician-Team Support person, in this position, you will:

•        Provide overall operational support to the Accounts Payable Team to ensure  efficiency and a collaborative working environment.

•        Enter payment requests into the system for processing.

•        Review and approve payment requests for payment in the general ledger.

•        Process travel-related requests ensuring compliance with policies and guidelines.

•        Prepare and process payments while ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable procedures, policies, federal requirements and state statutes.

•        Utilize Excel and other software to review transactions, analyze financial data and determine proper payment processing.

•        Contribute to the Department’s mission by processing payments timely and accurately while providing superior customer service to internal and external customers.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, training, and/or experience in accounting or another closely related field demonstrating competency in reviewing and maintaining records and applying basic accounting principles.

The backgrounds of well-qualified candidates will demonstrate the following competencies:

•        Possess good critical thinking skills, be flexible and adaptable to a fast-paced environment.

•        Basic understanding of accounting practices and controls and excellent attention to detail.

•        Prior experience and / or education which demonstrates knowledge of intermediate Excel functions and formulas to analyze data.

•        Prior experience and/ or education which demonstrates knowledge of GAAP/ GASB, analyzing accounting data and accounting reconciliations.

Agency information: 

The DHHS Financial Service Center is responsible for program accounting, cash management and revenue/expenditure control for the entire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).  The Service Center provides budget and fiscal analysis for many complex areas within DHHS including TANF (i.e. Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and MaineCare (formerly Medicaid). The Service Center works collaboratively with senior leadership at State agencies, providing consultative financial and accounting services. Areas of fiscal expertise include compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations, statewide budgetary policy, budget development and monitoring, application of generally accepted accounting and financial practices, grant management, financial analysis, cash management, accounting and financial processing, and legislative support.
