About the Position
As an Accounts Payable Clerk, you will play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and strong financial controls across accounts payable and related processes. Your duties include maintaining precise data, supporting both internal and external customers and clients, and upholding all ethical, organizational, and social responsibility standards. Your contribution is key to ensuring the organization runs smoothly and that financial and customer requirements are fulfilled promptly and accurately. This position reports to the C.E.O. and works closely with the Senior Accountant and Finance Consultant to ensure accurate and compliant financial processes.
We are looking for candidates with proven experience in data and financial entry who can perform effectively under high-stress conditions. Strong interpersonal skills are crucial, as the role involves working with businesses, staff, volunteers, community partners, and other stakeholders.
The Role
The Accounts Payable Clerk is a critical operational position that directly contributes to the financial health and credibility of Model Cities. By ensuring that all financial obligations are processed accurately and on time, this role supports both internal efficiency and external trust.

- Mission Support: By ensuring smooth financial operations, the AP Clerk enables program teams to focus on delivering impactful services to the community.
In a nonprofit environment, this role serves as a key safeguard for transparency, accountability, and sustainability—ensuring the organization remains a trusted steward of resources in service of its mission.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Process, code, and pay vendor invoices, including maintaining vendor records and ensuring proper approvals and internal control standards are met.
- Manage billing and receivables, including invoice generation, payment posting, and follow-up on outstanding balances.
- Prepare bank reconciliations and journal entries.
- Support financial statement preparation.
- Support grant and fund accounting by ensuring proper expense and revenue coding.
- Perform deposit and payment processing functions, including check scanning, deposit preparation, and timely bank deposits.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation to ensure audit readiness and compliance.
- Assist with financial reporting and 1099 tracking and preparation.
- Provide general accounting support and other assigned duties.
