Furst-McNess Company is looking to add a full-time Accounts Payable Clerk at our headquarters office in Rockford, IL.
Starting Pay: $24.00 per hour
Pay Type: Hourly rate with overtime pay, paid bi-weekly
Work Setting: Onsite, in-office
Core Work Schedule:Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, flexible start time between 7:30am-8am

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Accounts Payable Clerk is responsible for managing day-to-day accounts payable activities, ensuring invoices are processed accurately and payments are completed in a timely manner. This role works closely with internal teams and external vendors to resolve discrepancies, maintain accurate records, and support financial operations. The position requires strong attention to detail, organization, and a commitment to excellent service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Process and verify invoices for accuracy, proper approval, and account coding

Maintain timely and accurate entry of accounts payable transactions in company systems

Communicate with vendors and internal teams to resolve invoice discrepancies or payment issues

Monitor vendor accounts and reconcile balances as needed

Ensure payments are made in accordance with agreed terms and company policies

Respond to vendor inquiries and provide support in a professional and timely manner

Assist with audits, reporting, and preparation of required financial documents (e.g., 1099s)

Support cross-functional collaboration with accounting and other departments

Provide backup support within the accounting team as needed

Participate in system updates, process improvements, and other departmental initiatives

Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience

1–3+ years of accounts payable or general accounting experience preferred

Basic knowledge of accounting principles and accounts payable processes

Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with ERP systems

Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills

Effective communication and problem-solving abilities

Strong customer service mindset and ability to work collaboratively across teams

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be able to succeed within and adhere to the culture of the Furst-McNess Company.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation.
- An Associate’s degree in Accounting or equivalent in related work experience in this industry.
- Ability to read, write and speak English.
- Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office products. Experience with Microsoft office products, SAP and Medius is preferred.
- Ability to keep all interested parties involved in a project updated and complete the project within the time frame given.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written, and is capable of utilizing these skills within all levels of the Company as well as externally.
- Ability to provide outstanding customer service to all associates and management staff, showing a sense of urgency relative to solving problems, performing assigned tasks, employee concerns, etc.
- Ability to effectively organize work schedules and manage multiple assignments by utilizing time management skills to ensure day-to-day assignments and special projects are completed within guidelines agreed upon.
- Ability to work as an effective team member within the finance department and company, as a whole. Willingness to pitch in and do work that may not be a specific part of the job description for the overall good of the department and company.
