About Us

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence.

Description of Work

The primary purpose of the Accounting Technician position is to perform functions and responsibilities which operate under the areas of DDS Subsystem Unit within the Accounting and Financial Management Subsystem Section. This position's major responsibility is to process Certified Evidence invoices requested through Disability Determination Services (DDS) for the purpose of adjudicating the Social Security Disability claims through DDS NCPS. Certified Evidence of Record invoices include numerous types of letters that are submitted to the medical sources to obtain medical information. Payments to the medical vendors are based on DDS case processing approval for substantive information received. This position is also responsible for data entry of vendor maintenance changes in the DDS subsystems.
**A suitability determination by the Social Security Administration is necessary to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials in order to have access to Social Security disability data, records, and systems. Following the interview process, the recommended candidate will be contacted and asked to submit to an initial pre-screen Federal background investigation through the SSA Office of Human Resources (DCHR). If the pre-screen is favorable, a conditional job offer can be extended. After a new hire's start date, continued employment is still contingent upon full suitability clearance through the DCHR, which entails submitting to a detailed security questionnaire and a potential interview from a DCHR investigator that may include the need for a medical release from the individual during the investigative process. At any point during employment, a final determination by the SSA that the employee does not have a favorable suitability determination will lead to termination of employment.
