1The following description reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the principle functions of the position identified and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in such classification.
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Deputy Treasurer, the Accounting Supervisor will supervise the day-to-day operations of the clerical accounting staff.
Supervises:
Accounts Payable Clerks (3), Accounts Receivable Clerk, Accounting Clerk
Responsible For:
Establish and maintain detailed systems, procedures, and controls to ensure the efficient processing of accounting operations.
Provide direct front line supervision and responsible for providing training, operational work assignments, guidance, discipline and performance evaluations for staff.
Oversee and supervise all aspects of Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payables including invoicing, collections, payments, and timely, accurate processing.
Oversee and manage both the City’s credit card and Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) programs
Responsible for a variety of accounting functions including but not limited to: preparing, reviewing and approving journal entries, settlement runs, monthly HST returns and bank reconciliations.
Perform ongoing reviews of internal financial controls, procedures, policies and adherence to GAAP, PSAB and Municipal Act Requirements in compliance with external auditor reviews.
Represent the Finance Department as required on technical matters in discussion with the City’s auditors, other City departments, consultants, local boards and other government agencies.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Must possess a University Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
A recognized Accounting Designation (CPA, CA, CPA, CMA or CPA, CGA) is considered an asset.
At least three (3) years related experience.
Have a thorough knowledge of relevant computer applications and ERP systems. Workday experience is considered an asset.
Ability to communicate effectively, build relationships and foster collaboration across other City departments.
