Position Overview
Pathway Talent Partners is partnering with a government-sector client to identify an Accounting Specialist to support day-to-day accounting operations. This role will primarily focus on accounts payable and accounts receivable activities while assisting with general accounting and financial administration functions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working in a collaborative, process-driven environment.
This is a full-time temporary opportunity with the potential to convert to a permanent position based on performance and organizational needs.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
- Process vendor invoices accurately and timely.
- Match invoices with purchase orders and receiving documentation.
- Resolve invoice discrepancies and vendor inquiries.
- Prepare and process weekly payment runs.
- Maintain vendor records and supporting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures.
Accounts Receivable
- Generate and distribute invoices and billing statements.
- Apply incoming payments and maintain accurate customer account records.
- Monitor outstanding balances and assist with collection efforts.
- Research and resolve customer billing questions.
- Reconcile accounts and maintain detailed payment records.
General Accounting Support
- Assist with account reconciliations and month-end close activities.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
- Support financial reporting and audit requests.
- Enter and update financial data within accounting systems.
- Assist with special projects and other accounting-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or bookkeeping.
- Experience working within an ERP or accounting software system.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within a government, municipal, public sector, or highly regulated environment.
- Knowledge of fund accounting or governmental accounting principles.
- Experience supporting audits or financial compliance requirements.
