JOB SUMMARY
The Accounting Specialist provides administrative and financial support within the Finance Department by processing business licenses, permits, and excise taxes; administering accounts payable and purchasing card (P Card) activities; maintaining travel and expense records; and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, and City policies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
⦁ Provides backup support for alcohol licensing functions, business license customer service windows, and mail distribution routes as operational needs arise.
⦁ Assists with special projects, including bank reconciliations, asset inventories, audit preparation, and monthly financial reporting.
⦁ Assists with annual audit preparation and support activities.
⦁ Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or equivalent; one (1) year of related work experience.

None.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
⦁ Knowledge of City policies, procedures, and organizational structure.
⦁ Knowledge of laws, regulations, and statutes related to accounting, licensing, and fiscal administration.
⦁ Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
⦁ Skill in interpreting, preparing, and maintaining financial and licensing documents.
⦁ Skill in analyzing data, preparing reports, and identifying discrepancies.
⦁ Skill in managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a deadline-driven environment.
⦁ Ability to provide effective customer service and communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
⦁ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, vendors, and the public.
⦁ Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires extended periods of sitting with intermittent standing and walking. The position involves frequent use of hands and fingers for handling documents, operating a computer, and other office equipment. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of files, records, or office materials weighing up to 40 pounds may be required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed in a professional office environment with a moderate noise level. The position requires regular interaction with coworkers and the public and may involve periods of increased activity during peak processing cycles, deadlines, or audits.
