SUMMARY
Hennepin County District Court invites qualified applicants for an Accounting Specialist position in the Accounting Divisions. The Accounting Specialist is responsible for accounting work involving the coordination, preparation, and maintenance of court bookkeeping and financial records, as well as providing complex financial procedural information.
This AFSCME-represented position is classified as an Accounting Specialist. The Accounting Division is located in the court tower of the Hennepin County Government Center (14th floor, C-1400) in downtown Minneapolis at 300 South Sixth Street. Typical hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. This position is hybrid, after the initial training period, the position will work both onsite and remote, which may change depending on business needs. A reliable internet connection will be required if working remotely.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

- Review and process business expense reimbursements, biweekly payroll, and payments according to organizational policy and procedure
- Accurately review and complete in a timely manner all financials and reports checking for statutory compliance, and in accordance with state court policies and procedures
- Review and process restitution payment reports and process weekly disbursements
- Review, process, and audit tuition reimbursement requests according to state policy and procedure
- Provide excellent customer service by assisting and communicating with internal and external customers in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner in -person, over the phone, or through electronic means
- Communicate and collaborate with team members to ensure daily work assignments, financial processing, and other receivable duties are completed efficiently and accurately

Minimum Education and Experience
Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field and experience in bookkeeping, collections, or accounting
OR
- High school graduation (or equivalent) and (3) years of relevant job experience
- Examples of relevant job experience: bookkeeping, collections, or accounting
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience using Microsoft Office, and computerized accounting systems, with the ability to learn other job‑related software
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills related to accounting functions, including the ability to use Excel’s capabilities to identify and implement accounting process improvements
- Ability to interpret and apply policies and statutes to a variety of situations
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to identify policy‑compliance errors and initiate corrective action
- Ability to provide guidance, assistance, and serve as a resource to co-workers, court staff, supervisors, and managers
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with a diverse group of people
- Ability to make recommendations for process improvements
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve desired results
- Ability to work well under pressure in a high-volume, fast-paced work environment with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related financial field
- Experience working in a government or public-sector environment
- Experience in receivables or business expense reimbursement processing
- Experience with Microsoft SharePoint
- Experience with MNCIS (Minnesota Court Information Software) software
SALARY:
The expected starting salary for external candidates is at least $25.50 per hour and may be higher depending on qualifications. Pay will be determined in compliance with the AFSCME contract.
Starting salary range for candidates is $25.50 - $30.67 per hour ($53,244- $64,038.96 annually). The full salary range for this position is $23.14 - $38.20 per hour ($48,316.32- $79,761.60 annually). This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for State of Minnesota employee benefits
