POSITION SUMMARY
The Accounting Specialist position is an entry-level position responsible for supporting day-to-day and monthly close accounting operations. This role assists with routine accounting tasks and processing to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with established policies and procedures. Work is performed with clear guidelines and readily available oversight. This position is a part-time position for up to 28 hours per week, depending on the needs of the department.
REQUIREMENTS, ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Process vendor invoices and payments with accuracy and proper documentation.
- Match invoices to supporting documentation, research discrepancies, and resolve routine issues with internal departments and external vendors
- Assist with vendor payments via check and electronic methods
- Code and allocate recurring invoices according to established agreements and predefined accounts
- Support month‑end close activities, including basic reconciliations and reporting assistance.
- Assist with inventory-related processes.
- Respond to routine internal and external accounting inquiries.
- Maintain organized electronic and scanned accounting records.
- Provide backup support for accounting staff during absences
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger experience, or an equivalent combination of education/experience
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic understanding of accounting principles
- Ability to follow established procedures and work effectively under supervision
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills
- Effective communication skills and a customer‑service mindset
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and accounting software.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Specific required movements include the following: trunk-bend, twist, rotate, push, pull, and carry, arm’s reach and leg-lifts.
