The Grants Section ensures fiscal accountability and compliance for federal, state, private, and other grant funding sources through effective cash management, reporting, and financial oversight. The Accounting Specialist supports the Grants Manager in the daily administration of grant operations and accounting functions. Key responsibilities include:
~ Assisting with grant processing, accounting operations, and financial reporting.
~ Monitoring grant budgets, expenditures, and cash drawdowns to ensure compliance.
~ Preparing reconciliations, accounting entries, financial analyses, and reports.
~ Maintaining internal controls and ensuring adherence to policies and regulations.
~ Providing financial guidance and policy interpretation to division staff.
~ Utilizing NCFS, General Ledger, Accounts Payable/Receivable, and E-Procurement systems to support daily operations.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $45,431-$79,504

· Documented working knowledge of accounting and reporting practices.

· Experience maintaining spreadsheets and databases, including importing and exporting data.

· Experience assisting in interpreting and analyzing accounting data in various aspects of grants.

· Experience applying analysis to the departmental or institutional needs and determining compliance with pertinent guidelines, rules, regulations, and laws.

· Experience maintaining effective working relationships with representatives of related contact agencies, departmental staff, and the general public.

· Experience communicating effectively in oral and written form.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or other curriculum that would provide a core curriculum in financial management coursework from an appropriately accredited institution;

Or an Associate's degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of accounting or auditing experience;

Or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four (4) years of experience as an accounting technician, three of which must have been at an advanced level.
