Accounting Specialist
Housing Matters partners with individuals and families to create pathways out of their homelessness into permanent housing. As part of the Housing Matters administration team, working under the supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Accounting Specialist is responsible for general accounting functions including but not limited to Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Deposits.

Preferred Experience/ Education Requirements
- Bachelors in accounting preferred, or 2+ years of related professional experience
- Sage/Intacct, ADP, Salesforce knowledge a plus
- Proficiency with Excel and Google Sheets
- Certification in accounting preferred
- Proficient data entry skills
Thorough knowledge of:
- General accounting practices and procedures, with the ability to train others in related practices and procedures
- Accurate record-keeping and reporting
- Payroll processing
- Accounts Payable
Some knowledge of:
- Cash management
- Accounts Receivable
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for posting entries, verifying and reconciling input to the financial reporting system, processing payments,, and/or assisting in the preparation of billings and other financial reports.
- Perform routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records.
- Respond to inquiries and contact other departments and/or vendors to resolve a variety of problems.
- Assist in the performance of various clerical duties.
- Compute, classify, and record numerical data to keep financial records accurate.
- Perform routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data.
- Compile spreadsheets to assist with accounting reports.
- Maintain office hour availability to assist Housing Matters Staff with emergency funding for participant and program needs.
- Administrative oversight of Credit Card use and activity.
- Assist in maintaining financial files.
- Generating billing and sending out documentation associated.
- Conducts all duties associated with accounts payable including interacting with staff and vendors; processing invoices; expense coding; and data entry.
- Conducts all duties preparing and managing deposits from all sources.
- Conducts finance duties associated with semi-monthly payroll.
- Assist with reviewing expenses concerning P&L reports.
- Assists with the preparation of audits or monitoring activities including required annual financial audits.
- Train staff members on the funds request process, related finance procedures, and new system upgrades or process changes as needed.
- Assist with year-end 1099 preparation and filing, including vendor review, documentation follow-up, and related support as needed.
- Participate in training on Housing Matters’ accounting systems, internal finance processes, grant coding structure, and department procedures to support accurate and consistent accounting practices.
- Gather all necessary financial reporting to federal, city, and state agencies, as needed.
- Performs clerical and administrative support as assigned.
