About Your Role
The Accounting Manager is a hands-on leader responsible for owning the company’s day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, and basic people (HR) operations. In a small, fast-moving organization, this role blends technical accounting expertise with practical HR administration to ensure the business runs smoothly, compliantly, and efficiently. This position partners closely with leadership, helps keeps running smoothly, and owns the details.
What You’ll Do
Accounting & Financial Operations (Primary Focus)
- Own the full accounting cycle, including general ledger, AP/AR, bank reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and explain results to leadership.
- Maintain clean, audit-ready books and supporting documentation.
- Manage cash flow tracking and support short-term forecasting.
- Coordinate with external CPA firm on tax filings, audits, and year-end close.
- Establish and improve simple, scalable accounting processes and internal controls.
- Support budgeting and ad-hoc financial analysis as the company grows.
Payroll, Benefits & HR Operations (Light, Administrative)
- Process or oversee payroll and ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
- Administer employee benefits, including enrollments, changes, and payroll deductions with vendor coordination when needed.
- Maintain employee records, personnel files, and required compliance documentation including I-9s, W-4s, and other compliance-based documents.
- Support onboarding and offboarding logistics, including paperwork and HRIS access.
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee questions related to payroll, benefits, and basic policies.
- Assist leadership with annual policy updates and compliance tracking; escalate complex HR matters to external advisors as needed
What You’ll Need to Get the Job Done:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of increasingly responsible accounting experience; prior experience working with owners or executive leadership in a small company strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and practical accounting operations.
- Experience handling payroll and benefits.
- Basic understanding of employment compliance requirements.
- High attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and self-manage.
- Absolute discretion with sensitive financial and employee information.
