What You Will Do
Plant Strong is seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to own day-to-day accounting operations and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting. This role will execute and improve core processes across a complex CPG environment with multiple SKUs, copackers, inventory locations, and eCommerce channels.
Responsibilities:
- Lead monthly close process and maintain supporting schedules
- Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements, ensuring accuracy across journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting
- Track and reconcile inventory across multiple locations and 3PLs, investigating and resolving discrepancies as they arise
- Maintain SKU-level costing and support COGS accuracy
- Record and reconcile all activity from Shopify and Amazon, including payouts, fees, refunds, and discounts
- Ensure accurate net revenue reporting across all ecommerce channels
- Maintain and support key accounting systems including QuickBooks Desktop, Bill.com, Webgility, and SPS Commerce
- Identify and implement process improvements within the existing accounting structure
- Oversee AP/AR processes and reconciliations, supporting cash tracking and working capital visibility
- Track retailer deductions, chargebacks, and trade spend activity
- Follow established accounting policies and internal controls to ensure consistency, compliance, and ongoing audit readiness
- Manage monthly sales tax reporting and ensure timely, accurate filings
- Coordinate with the external CPA firm to support annual federal and state tax return preparation, providing required financial data, schedules, and documentation while ensuring timely year-end close
- Issue annual 1099 forms and ensure compliance with IRS vendor reporting requirements
- Partner with operations and eCommerce teams to resolve discrepancies
- Provide reporting support to CEO and external partners as needed
Who You Are
The ideal candidate is a self-directed accounting professional with deep CPG experience who thrives with minimal oversight and can hit the ground running. They have owned the full month-end close process and bring hands-on proficiency in QuickBooks and enterprise-level systems. Above all, they operate with a high degree of personal ownership and initiative.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA a plus)
- 5+ years of experience in CPG food and beverage, with hands-on exposure to eCommerce and inventory management
- Strong experience with inventory and cost accounting and eCommerce reconciliation (Shopify/Amazon)
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Desktop a plus
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
