Accounting Manager

Comparion Insurance Agency and the Liberty Mutual Insurance Agency are seeking an Accounting Manager to lead the accounting function supporting both agencies, with a primary focus on the accounts receivable process.

In this role, you will independently manage a small team in a deadline-focused environment, with ultimate ownership for the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of commissions receivable and reconciliations. You will partner closely with Compliance and Audit to maintain and design net new controls appropriate for the agencies' scale, and you will serve as a trusted advisor to business partners on the accounting implications of the agencies' evolving operations. You will also focus on developing your team, setting clear objectives and providing the coaching needed to build their skills and support their growth.

Must have experience accounting for commissions received from third party carriers and all other aspects of insurance agency accounting.

Responsibilities:

• Owns the end-to-end accounts receivable process for commissions received by Comparion Insurance Agency and Liberty Mutual Insurance Agency.

• Ensures the accurate, timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual book close cycles for agency commission accounting through effective planning, monitoring, and problem solving.

• Oversees the production of all commission AR reporting and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting policy and internal control requirements.

• Partners with Compliance and Audit to maintain existing controls and design net new controls for commissions receivable commensurate with the agencies' scale, and makes recommendations to continuously strengthen the control environment.

• Reconciles commissions receivable against agency and carrier records, researching and resolving discrepancies and accounting issues, and communicates policy and process changes to senior management and business partners as needed.

• Owns revenue and expense reclassifications as necessary, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with accounting policy.

• Manages, coaches, and develops a team of two, setting challenging objectives, providing ongoing feedback, and building the skills needed to support the agencies as they continue to scale.

• Identifies and leads process improvements — including automation opportunities — to ensure commission AR and reconciliation work is performed as accurately and efficiently as possible

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or equivalent accounting experience, CPA preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of accounting practices and procedures.
• Extensive experience dealing with statutory authorities and expertise on statutory matters and compliance requirements.
• Ability to assess and communicate financial implications of business plans and actions.
• Ability to display profit orientation and business results focus. Demonstrates business partnering ability and focus on business results.
• Ability to communicate in non-technical terms and present analysis in an understandable and concise manner.
• Knowledge of reinsurance concepts and related accounting.
