Job Description:

The Accounting Manager position requires an organized individual with experience in managing accounting processes and personnel. The Accounting Manager oversees the day-to-day accounting responsibilities for the council.  

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Manage finance department: Effectively manage team members including continuous improvement, conducting regular one-on-one meetings, team meetings, on-going coaching and completion of performance effectiveness appraisal reports completed within established timeframes. Work cross-functionally and collaboratively in a positive and supportive manner. 
  2. Financial management accountability 

-Complete the monthly closing by the 8th business day after each month-end, for all months except September and October.  September to be completed by audit timeline and revised as per the audit. October to be completed by the 15th business day after month-end. 

-Complete assigned reconciliations, review and coordination of month-end journal entries and closing procedures. Review reconciliations prepared by team members.  

-Prepare internal monthly consolidated financial statements for management and Board of Directors.  

-Maintain detailed records on all donor restricted funds to ensure proper use and timely completion of required reporting.  

-Consult with department managers on proper use of donor restricted funds 

-Work with Senior Accountant on holding monthly budget meetings with budget managers. Use information obtained during monthly meetings to provide updated projections for annual budget and explanation of variances.  

-Maintain updated department budget reports to review with managers and to update the council-wide annual projections monthly  -Develop a thorough understanding of the budget process as a backup to CFO 

-Set deadlines and hold finance team members accountable to accurately complete yearend responsibilities within the established audit timeline developed 

-Manage audit work papers preparation during the audit process.

-Learn the components of the 990 and audit reports, including footnotes and what to review for finalization  

-Review and reconcile all transactions 

-Prepare banking transactions, including but not limited to, product program ACHs and special fundraising event batch charges 

-Provide council level customer service support to troops, volunteers, and other departments   

 3. Risk Management accountability 

-Prepare annual renewal documents for CFO’s review two weeks prior to the agent’s time requirements 

-Perform the day-to-day requirements of claim reporting and processing keeping the CFO and insurance agent informed of all activities and potential risks 

-Review and file all requests for certificates of insurance proof and new drivers with insurance representative  

 4. Maintain a finance department written procedures manual  

Requirements Salary Description Starting range $64,000.00 per year
