The Opportunity We’re looking for an Accounting Manager who understands accounting from end to end and knows how to turn that knowledge into better ways of working. This role brings together accounting management and business transformation. You’ll lead our Accounts Payable team while rethinking the processes behind their work, identifying manual tasks, resolving bottlenecks, and implementing AI and automation that improve accuracy and help us scale. Your primary focus will be Procure-to-Pay (P2P): how purchasing, inventory, vendor invoices, approvals, payments, and reconciliations connect to the general ledger and ultimately the P&L. You’ll bring the accounting judgment to understand what should be automated, what controls need to stay in place, and how changes affect financial reporting and audit requirements. You’ll help define the path, working closely with Accounting, business teams, and systems partners to take improvements from initial opportunity through implementation, adoption, and measurable results. What you'll do Lead and develop the Accounts Payable team, setting clear priorities and supporting accurate, timely processing, payments, and reconciliations. Map existing accounting and P2P workflows to identify repetitive tasks, manual handoffs, bottlenecks, and recurring errors. Build and deliver an automation roadmap that moves targeted processes toward touchless processing, with clear controls and exception handling. Own AI, automation, and process improvement projects from discovery and requirements through solution design, implementation, testing, training, and adoption. Apply a full-cycle accounting perspective to process changes, ensuring transactions flow correctly into the GL and P&L and support accurate period-end reporting. Improve the connections between purchasing, goods receiving, invoice matching, vendor management, approvals, payments, and reconciliations. Partner with Accounting, Partner Managers, Distribution Centers, and systems teams to resolve root causes and redesign workflows across departments. Strengthen approval controls, audit trails, reconciliations, and documentation as processes become more automated. Evaluate and implement practical uses of AI and automation within accounting workflows, with appropriate validation and oversight. Define and track measures such as touchless processing rates, exception volumes, processing time, accuracy, and manual effort saved. Support audit readiness and financial reporting through reliable processes, complete documentation, and timely resolution of accounting issues. What you bring to the table Experience as an Accounting Manager, with a strong foundation in full-cycle accounting, the general ledger, reconciliations, period-end close, audit requirements, and the P&L. A broad accounting background that allows you to assess how changes in AP and purchasing affect expense recognition, account balances, controls, and financial reporting. Demonstrated experience implementing AI and automation in accounting or finance workflows. You’ve taken projects from identifying an opportunity through implementation, testing, adoption, and measuring results. Experience delivering an accounting or finance system implementation, integration, or significant workflow redesign, with clear ownership of the outcome. Practical knowledge of P2P processes, including vendor invoices, purchase orders, approvals, matching, payments, and reconciliations. People management experience, including coaching, prioritizing work, and helping a team adopt new systems and processes. Strong ERP knowledge and an understanding of how transactions move between operational systems and the GL. The initiative to take a broad objective, investigate the problem, bring the right people together, and deliver improvements with minimal direction. Clear communication skills and the ability to turn accounting requirements into practical solutions with business and technical partners. Bonus if you have A CPA designation and Big Four audit experience, both highly preferred. Private industry accounting experience following public practice. Experience in wholesale, distribution, manufacturing, retail, CPG, or another business where purchasing and physical inventory are central to operations. Inventory accounting knowledge, including how purchasing, receiving, inventory balances, and related expenses flow through the financial statements. Hands-on experience with NetSuite, SPS Commerce EDI, or similar ERP and transaction integration tools. Practical experience applying tools such as ChatGPT or Claude to accounting work, supported by examples of how you validated outputs and improved a process.
