Accounting Assistant

Summary:

The Center for Veterans Research and Education (CVRE), whose mission is to help to support innovative research and education initiatives that improve the health and well-being of Veterans, is seeking a termporary, part-time Accounting Assistant.  This job would last about 3 or 4 months. 

Responsibilities: Major duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Prepare spreadsheets and reports related to grant and industry trial activity, budget status, and financial performance.
• Support the reconciliation of grant and industry trial accounts and other accounts.
• Assist with the preparation of accounts receivable invoices and related financial reports. 
• Assists with accounts receivable collections.
• Prepare and record journal entries
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close.
• Organize and maintain electronic files, including award documents, amendments, and financial records. 
• Assists with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other general accounting functions.
• Maintain confidentiality of financial, employee, and organizational information. 
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. 

Experience: Prior accounting or bookkeeping experience required in lieu of education.

Licensure/Registration/

Certification: None required

Preferred Qualifications:

• Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting. 
• Analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 
• Interest in nonprofit finance, grants management, or government-funded programs a plus. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with Microsoft Outlook, and Word.

• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills.

Conditions of Employment:

• Subject to a criminal and educational background check.

• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
• Must be a US citizen.

Physical Requirements: The employee must be able to navigate the medical center, use a keyboard, and lift 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be considered in determining an applicant's ability to perform the duties/functions of the position.
