Accounting Analyst
Location: Charlotte, NC
Work Arrangement: Fully Onsite
Pay Rate: $28/hour
Position Overview
We are seeking an Accounting Analyst to support payroll accounting activities related to the conversion of an HCM system. This role will focus heavily on analyzing payroll activity, identifying variances, preparing retroactive payroll adjusting journal entries, and developing clear supporting documentation for management and audit requirements.
The ideal candidate will have strong payroll accounting knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare retroactive payroll adjusting journal entries resulting from the conversion of an HCM system.
- Analyze variances for both on-cycle and off-cycle payrolls and determine whether accounting adjustments are required.
- Compile and review underlying payroll details to identify the source and cause of variances.
- Apply a strong understanding of payroll activity and accounting principles when evaluating adjustments.
- Prepare accurate, clear, and concise workpapers, reconciliations, and supporting analyses in accordance with management and audit requirements.
- Ensure payroll accounting activities are performed in compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
- Follow company, department, and team policies and procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Payroll Processing, Payroll Tax, and Payroll Technology.
- Research and resolve payroll accounting discrepancies and variances.
- Maintain organized documentation to support journal entries, reconciliations, and audit requests.
- Leverage Excel and other analytical tools to efficiently analyze large volumes of payroll data.
- 3–7 years of experience in payroll accounting, payroll analysis, accounting, or a closely related field.
- Strong understanding of payroll processes, payroll accounting, and journal entries.
- Experience analyzing payroll variances and determining appropriate accounting adjustments.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls; experience working within SOX-controlled environments preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret large amounts of data and identify trends, discrepancies, and variances.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
