Accountant

The Accountant is an experienced accounting professional who will take ownership and accountability for the statutory reporting process in support of Statutory Reporting to the State’s Departments of Insurance, as well as other regulatory requirements.  In addition, the Accountant will be responsible for the accounting, reporting and analysis for assigned blocks of business and will work closely with other members of the accounting and reporting teams within Talcott to ensure complete, accurate and timely internal and external reporting of our financial results. The US Controllers Accounting team is responsible for the preparation and reporting of financial information for a variety of internal and external customers. Description:

Responsible for the preparation and review of accurate and complete statutory financial statements for a life insurance operating company, including quarterly and annual regulatory filings and the annual audited financial statements. Responsible for the coordination, preparation and review of statutory supplemental and state compliance filings for Life companies.  Actively coordinates with Legal, Compliance, Tax and Actuarial. Support relevant communications with various state insurance departments, including researching and responding to inquiries, completing requested surveys, and communicating accounting issues or confirming accounting treatment of various transactions. Processes payments of state licenses and fees both at year end as well as throughout the year. Work with internal and external stakeholders regarding accounting and reporting for assigned blocks, including resolving issues and/or working on related strategic initiatives. Streamline processes and procedures to continually improve efficiency and controls. Owns related internal controls, including performance of all SOX controls for assigned blocks and appropriate SOX documentation, as well as identification of new risks to propose and implement process and control changes independently.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional with the following background/experiences:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or related field and a CPA or MBA is a plus. 3-5 years of experience in the financial services industry. Strong record of accomplishment in the financial services industry, preferably in the Life insurance industry, with statutory accounting and reporting experience preferred. Strong organizational, analytical, critical thinking and leadership/empowerment skills. Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate information to various levels of management. Individual must possess a high level of initiative, be a self-starter, self-directed, independent and highly motivated. Proficient in Excel, Oracle, WDesk Experience with Sovos Wings or other Statutory Reporting software a plus
