Summary :
The Senior Accountant supports the accuracy and integrity of the Health System’s financial records and plays a key role in financial reporting, compliance, and monthly close activities. This position leads and supports critical accounting functions, including audits, tax reporting, community benefit reporting, banking activities, capital accounting, and financial system reporting. The Senior Accountant partners with leadership and collaborates across teams to strengthen financial processes, ensure compliance, and support informed decision‑making.Job Description:
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Prepare journal entries for monthly financial statements and affiliated entities.
- Prepare detailed reconciliations for general ledger accounts in approved reconciliation format. This includes, but is not limited to, review and analysis of all account activity, obtaining documentation for all transactions, thorough investigation of unfamiliar transactions and correction of errors. Communicate all material discrepancies and potential issues and adjustments with appropriate team members and/or leaders.
- Prepare monthly financial statements including balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flow in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, as assigned.
- Assist in the preparation of the consolidated health system monthly financial statements.
- Participate in the annual year-end audit by preparing audit workpapers, assisting the Accounting Coordinator and Accounting Manager in compiling and review of all completed audit workpapers and responding to auditor questions.
- Maintain the integrity of the financial information through ongoing assessments of policies, procedures, and internal controls within the department, ensuring the generation of accurate and complete information from the accounting enterprise system and other accounting systems as appropriate.
- Maintains communication with the Accounting Manager of any issues, new developments, and status of job duties.
- Trains team members to improve outcomes and financial performance.
- Contribute to departmental and Health System objectives by working collaboratively and consistently demonstrating professionalism, cooperation, and effective work habits.
- Actively participate in process improvement initiatives through team involvement, problem solving, and support of the Health System’s commitment to continuous quality improvement.
- Perform other assigned duties and special projects, which may include preparation of tax returns, daily cash reconciliations, maintenance of capital asset activity, risk insurance coordination, and community benefit reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Three or more years of accounting experience is required.
- Five years of accounting experience preferred.
- Healthcare experience, preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
- Advanced proficiency with digital productivity tools and technology, including complex spreadsheet models, document and collaboration tools, data visualization and reporting platforms, and enterprise financial and general ledger systems, with the ability to leverage these tools for analysis, problem solving, and process improvement.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance
- Job classification is not exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Collaboration and interaction with department team members, leaders, and healthcare providers throughout the organization.
- Work may be performed remotely, in a hybrid arrangement, or in a climate‑controlled office cubicle setting, with occasional movement throughout the facility.
