Job Description
Accountant
Under general supervision, the Accountant performs professional accounting activities that support OCTA’s financial operations, grant accounting, and regulatory reporting. This role is responsible for preparing and reconciling financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the agency’s financial reporting and audit processes.
This is a non-exempt position in salary grade 185: Min – $40.06 | Mid – $47.59 | Max – $55.11/hour. The starting salary will be within the established range based on qualifications.

What You’ll Do
- Prepare and maintain grant accounting records, including expense and revenue accruals, reconciliations, reimbursement requests, and financial reporting
- Assist in preparing the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA)
- Perform month-end, quarterly, and year-end journal entries and closing activities
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Review grant-related invoices, cash receipts, and transactions to ensure compliance with GAAP and funding requirements
- Maintain accounting records and grant schedules to support accurate financial reporting
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules and supporting documentation
- Perform financial analysis and prepare reports to support grant administration and accounting operations
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of accounting procedures and processes
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of three years of professional accounting experience
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting practices
- Experience with grant accounting, governmental accounting, or public-sector finance (preferred)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with financial systems and Microsoft Excel
