About the Role:
The Accountant II, also known as Staff Accountant or Cost Accountant, is responsible for supporting financial operations through cost accounting, financial reporting, and data analysis within a manufacturing or corporate environment. This role focuses on maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and delivering actionable financial insights to support business decision making. The Accountant II plays a key role in month-end close, reporting, and continuous improvement of accounting processes and systems.
Responsibilities:
- Perform general ledger accounting, cost accounting, and financial analysis to support business operations
- Prepare monthly financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss reports
- Manage accounts payable processes, invoicing, and data entry with a high level of accuracy
- Analyze cost variances, track expenses, and develop reporting to support budgeting and forecasting
- Utilize ERP systems and accounting software to maintain financial data integrity and reporting accuracy
- Develop and maintain financial dashboards and data visualization reports using tools such as Power BI
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and journal entries
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and support operational decision making
- Assist in maintaining compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies and procedures
- Identify opportunities for process improvements in accounting workflows and financial reporting
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3 to 5 years of experience in accounting, including cost accounting and financial reporting
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles
- Experience with ERP systems and accounting software in a business or manufacturing environment
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and reporting platforms such as Power BI
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in manufacturing accounting or cost accounting in a production environment
- Familiarity with financial planning and analysis, budgeting, and forecasting processes
- Knowledge of data visualization, business intelligence tools, and KPI reporting
- Experience improving accounting systems, workflows, and automation processes
- Professional certification such as CPA or CMA is a plus
- Experience supporting audits and internal controls compliance initiatives
