ABOUT THE ROLE
ILWU Credit Union is seeking an experienced Accountant II to support core accounting operations and financial reporting. This role is responsible for performing a range of intermediate-level accounting functions, including reconciliations, accounts payable, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close activities. The Accountant II works with a high degree of independence, ensures accuracy and compliance with GAAP, and plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial data. This position also supports process improvement efforts and collaborates across departments to ensure efficient and effective accounting operations.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
General Accounting & Reconciliations
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly general ledger reconciliations
- Reconcile Federal Reserve and other financial institution accounts
- Maintain and balance assigned GL accounts and resolve discrepancies
- Post journal entries and support month-end and year-end close
Transactions & Operational Accounting
- Process accounts payable, including vendor setup, W-9 collection, and 1099 reporting
- Process corporate transactions (wires, stop payments, and miscellaneous entries)
- Reconcile and monitor operational activity, including:
- ACH and share drafts
- CO-OP and shared branching
- ATM balancing and variance resolution (including Reg E disputes)
- Return items and branch deposits
- Process garnishments, levies, subpoenas and account-related transactions
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare monthly financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation
- Assist with Board reporting materials
- Submit regulatory filings (e.g., CTRs, SARs)
- Manage unclaimed property reporting
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and GAAP
Account Management & Support
- Maintain prepaid expense and fixed asset schedules
- Serve as custodian of accounting records and support record retention processes
- Manage off-site record storage and inventory tracking
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- Minimum one (1) year of accounting experience (credit union or banking experience preferred)
- Working knowledge of GAAP and general accounting practices
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office tools
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Effective communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires prolonged sitting and computer use, frequent typing and document handling, regular communication with members and vendors, and the ability to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
