Accountant II

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly financial data and reports
- Perform reconciliations of bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and subsidiary ledgers
- Analyze accounts and investigate discrepancies; recommend and implement corrective actions
- Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Perform accounting tasks related to premiums, commissions, taxes (including premium tax and sales/use tax), and abandoned property
- Coordinate and process 1099 reporting
- Assist with annual audits and state examinations, including preparation of supporting documentation
- Support payment processing and banking transactions
- Assist with commission processing, including monthly and annual profit-sharing calculations
- Identify transactions subject to sales and use tax and ensure proper reporting
- Provide support on special projects and process improvement initiatives
- Serve as backup for other accounting functions and assist in training junior staff
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in accounting, preferably within P&C insurance
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and resolve discrepancies
- Collaborative team player with a customer-service mindset
Desired Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Familiarity with insurance accounting, statutory reporting, or regulatory filings
- Experience supporting audits and regulatory examinations
- AIAF designation (or progress toward designation) preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Continuous improvement mindset with focus on process efficiency
- Public accounting experience a plus but not a requirement
