Summary

This position performs governmental accounting, auditing, and financial reporting in accordance with GASB and GAAP standards related to municipal finance. The Accountant I report to the Budget Director and plays a crucial role in compiling financial reports, conducting budget and data analysis, and supporting special projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assists departments with the grant application process, evaluates grants for City matching requirements, assesses the potential impact on the City prior to application submission Monitors grant accounts, prepares reports, processes draw requests, and ensures compliance with grant requirements Assesses agenda items related to grants to confirm funding requirements are satisfied Performs complex analysis of financial data related to various grants, ensures accuracy and compliance Prepares monthly journals and conducts reconciliations of general ledger accounts to maintain financial integrity Assists with the creation of monthly and quarterly financial statements, as well as the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report Provides documents, schedules, and financial analysis to aid independent auditors during the City’s annual audit Ensures financial reporting complies with legal standards and promotes transparency Adheres to City policies and procedures, including work schedule and attendance policies Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field One (1) year of experience in public accounting, private sector accounting, or governmental accounting Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Certified Public Account (CPA) or Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) certification or progress towards CPA or CGFO certification preferred
