Position Summary:         

The primary functions of the Accountant I position is to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll and money reviews.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.  The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.  The on-site and off-site meetings, conferences, appearances, seminars, etc. attended by the incumbent occur in a typical office environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


Qualifications

Qualifications:

  1. A working knowledge of payroll regulations and changes set forth by the IRS, Comptroller of Maryland, Friends Aware Employee Handbook, including knowledge of compensation rates and related rules.
  2. A thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) including general ledger accounting and account reconciliations.
  3. A proficient knowledge of Microsoft Windows, including Word/Excel/Outlook.
  4. Possess a working knowledge of computerized payroll and general ledger functions.
  5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  6. Ability to work rapidly with a high degree of accuracy to meet weekly deadlines.
  7. Ability to adapt to a changing work environment.

Education and Preferred Work Experience:

    BS degree in accounting or a related field preferred; however, an Associate degree and experience will be considered. Must possess a valid driver’s license with an agency approved driving record.
