INTRODUCTION
The Accountant I will perform basic accounting functions such as month end closing, account reconciliation, ledger/account analysis, Federal and State tax filing, cost analysis, customer invoicing, and decision support. Prepares financial reports from standard operating statistics and financial data. Investigates and resolves problems related to accounts, budgets, invoices, and procurement practices.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the accounting of third-party customer contracts; assist in administration of customer contracts and preparation of customer invoices and post incoming FedEx ACH payments.
- Contribute to the success of the monthly closing process, including journalizing accruals, adjusting entries and other related accounting; prepare and analyze balance sheet account reconciliations including bank accounts; assist in annual budget process.
- Prepare federal and state tax filings (i.e. property taxes, sales & use tax returns, DOT, FET, etc); maintain fixed asset ledger and monitor the Capital Spending Approval (CSA) process.
- Assist in preparation of information for corporate, customer and governmental audits.
- Process and pay hourly rate for contractors and hourly per diem for pilots.
- Proxy for administration of Company vehicle registration and licensing, recording cash receipts and administration of insurance policies and process of incident claims; provide guidance and assistance to all other accounting department employees assisting Controller and Accounting Supervisor.
- Assist in reconciling Diners Club credit card statements for overhead employees, ensuring accurate coding of billable and non-billable transactions.
- Ad hoc reporting and other special projects as required or assigned.
- Promote and support the mission of Empire Airlines.
- Other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Four-year college degree with emphasis in accounting, with one year accounting experience preferred. Must possess the ability to work independently with accuracy and attention to detail. Strong math skills and PC proficiency, including strong Excel skills are required. Must have a strong understanding of accrual accounting, including mastery of debits and credits and ability to prepare and interpret financial statements. Must have excellent critical thinking skills, as well as superb oral and written communication.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Requires standing, walking, sitting, bending and stooping for extended periods of time. May be required to lift up to 20 pounds. Requires manual dexterity, speaking, seeing and hearing to conduct business.
PAY & BENEFITS
This is a full-time position involving 40-hour work weeks.
The wage for this position is $23 - $27 per hour, depending on experience.
