About the Position:
Reporting to the Assistant Controller and accepting direction from the Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for complex accounting such as: financial statement preparation, compliance preparation and detailed analysis and recommendations. The Senior Accountant will work closely with all members of the Finance team as part of the month end, quarter end and year end close process as well as special project support such as the annual budget and audits. The Senior Accountant may engage with other departments and external parties as required to ensure that financial statements and reports are prepared correctly.
Some specific duties:
Accounting:
- Works with the finance team to ensure timely and accurate annual, quarterly, monthly and ad hoc financial reporting and compliance deliverables.
- Understands and supports the key performance indicators for the finance function.
- Fixed Asset record maintenance and tracking.
- Key input towards the with annual budgeting and planning, with guidance from various levels of management, and Board of Directors.
- Review complex accounting journals, analyses and reconciliations for junior team members.
- Assists with various external compliance requirements.
- Works on strategic financial projects as required.
- Supports complex accounting functions such as: analyses, reporting and financial statement preparation.
- Reviews internal working papers or analysis to support the annual audit, budget or special projects, as required.

- Key contributor to the financial statement and report preparation.
- Actively makes recommendations on changes to or additions in internal controls, finance policies and process documentation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications you need to have:
- A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required, plus a minimum of 5 to 8 years’ experience in accounting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the employer.
- Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Understanding of restricted fund accounting and CRA reporting requirements for non-profits.
- Foundational understanding of financial risk management and experience identifying, documenting and mitigating financial risks.
- Ability to research and interpret the CICA Handbook.
- Comfortable navigating financial software and MS Excel including pivot tables and creating visual dashboards
- Passion for technology, automation and improving processes within the finance function.
- Emotionally intelligent and creative thinker with a passion for continuous improvement.
- Self-starter who enjoys proactively generating, evaluating and implementing new ideas and does independent research and analysis before making recommendations.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate competing priorities.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders at all levels and from diverse backgrounds in a positive and respectful manner.
