Serving Maine’s Midcoast communities of Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell, and Topsham, MSAD 75 is home to over 2,350 students and more than 600 faculty and staff members.
MSAD 75 is seeking an experienced Accountant to join our District Office Team. This position will provide daily accounting functions necessary to maintain a general ledger in accordance with GAAP and audit recommendations; to manage District cash flow; to provide accounting and financial data to support various District processes.
POSITION: 260 Days Full-Year/Full-Time, Exempt
SALARY: $75,000 - $85,000 (DOE)
REPORTS TO: Business Manager
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Make journal transaction entries and budget revisions into the general ledger with clear audit trails.
- Enter budgets and budget revisions into the accounting system.
- Reconcile monthly general ledger accounts. Review general fund bank reconciliation, and reconcile various other checking accounts. Review and approve reconciliations of school student activity funds prepared by school office employees.
- Support the annual audit, including, but not limited to, preparing summaries, schedules, researching questions, entering audit adjustments and rolling over year-end balances.
- Maintain fixed assets database.
- Conduct bank transactions, including funds transfers, as authorized by the Business Manager.
- Prepare periodic external reports including financial reports, federal cash requirement reports for federal grants and other reports as assigned by the Business Manager.
- Prepare and submit monthly/quarterly federal and state grant reimbursement invoices (e.g., Title I, IDEA) through Maine DOE portals, ensuring all expenditures align with approved budgets and federal Uniform Guidance.
- Prepare and upload the District’s data submissions for the Maine Educational Data Management System (MEDMS) Financial Module.
- Manage the computerized accounting system including coordinating all systems changes and upgrades with the District’s Information Systems staff.
- Serve as back-up to accomplish the District’s biweekly payroll function in the absence of the Payroll Specialist.
- Provide data to Human Resources to support the preparation of annual stipend contracts and annual teacher contracts.
- Provide data to the Business Manager to support the annual budget development process.
- Act as resource for Infinite Visions software.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business management.
- Experience with municipal or public school fund accounting preferred.
- Minimum of at least two years’ experience with computerized accounting systems.
- Strong computer literacy including spreadsheet/database programs. Advanced experience in Excel preferred. Working knowledge/experience with Tyler Technologies Infinite Visions accounting software preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. This position will develop working rapport with Employees from across the District.
- Strong detail and organizational ability.
- Prior experience with internal and external audits preferred.
- Valid State of Maine Department of Education background check (CHRC) authorization
