Job Title: Accountant

Position Summary
The accountant position is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the electric cooperative by maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing financial analysis to support decision-making. This role plays a critical part in safeguarding the cooperative’s financial integrity while supporting its mission to deliver reliable, affordable electric service to member-owners.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and maintain general ledger entries and account reconciliations
- Monthly balancing of bank accounts
- Manage employee payroll deductions
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement preparation
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards
- Prepare and file required financial and regulatory reports
- Assist with external audits and coordinate audit documentation
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes assigned
- Assist with tax reporting (federal, state, and cooperative-specific)
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- 2+ years of accounting experience (utility or cooperative experience preferred)
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA certification or progress toward certification
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems specific to utilities

Working Conditions
