JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant to join our team in Smithers, BC. This is an exciting opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a dynamic environment, contributing to strategic financial decisions, and driving continuous improvement. This is a full-time position running Monday-Friday (40–45 hours/week.)
Reporting to the Controller, you will play a key role in the month-end close process, financial reporting, budgeting, and maintaining strong internal controls. You'll work closely with both operational and leadership teams, gaining exposure to a wide range of accounting and finance functions while helping support the continued growth of Bandstra!
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, intercompany balances, prepaids, and accruals, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements and reports
- Prepare monthly and quarterly working papers for submission to the parent company
- Assist the Controller with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes and reporting
- Maintain and support internal control processes, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance
- Manage the capital expenditures program, including tracking asset additions and disposals, and recording monthly amortization
- Support annual budget preparation and financial planning activities for senior management
- Collaborate with external auditors to support audit requirements and ensure timely completion
- Review accounts payable payments for accuracy and assist in preparing weekly cash flow projections
- Review GST filings and reporting to ensure tax compliance
- Assist in the preparation of terminal profit and loss statements
- Contribute to the development and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Participate in monthly management meetings and financial reviews
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Identify and support process improvement and change management initiatives across finance and operations
- Lead or support ad hoc projects and special assignments as required
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiencies across finance and operations
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3+ years of accounting or finance experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Strong understanding of core accounting principles and financial reporting processes
- Proficiency in Excel and experience with ERP/accounting systems
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
ASSETS:
- CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA certification
- Experience with TruckMate software
- Experience in a multi-location, transportation, logistics, or operational accounting environment
