Job Purpose: The Staff Accountant will assist in maintaining the financial health and integrity of the hospital. This position is responsible for general ledger management, month-end close procedures, financial reporting and ensuring compliance with both GAAP and hospital policies.
Minimum Requirements:
Education & Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or equivalent combination of education and experience required
Required Licenses/Certifications: None
Work Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years of progressive accounting experience in the management of financial systems and budgets, financial reporting, financial data analysis, and auditing. Prior experience in healthcare, hospital or clinical accounting is highly preferred. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and auditing principles.

Special Requirements: ● Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, index/match, and complex formulas). Experience with large-scale Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and healthcare financial systems (e.g., Lawson, Workday, Oracle, Meditech, or Epic). Experience with Meditech Magic, Client Server or Expanse preferred. Solid understanding of GAAP and internal control frameworks. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain financial concepts to non-financial clinical staff. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities during close periods. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-function teams. High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and professional judgment. Ability to comply with attendance requirements and comply with Human Resource policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and record standard and complex journal entries for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close within established deadlines.
- Prepare recurring and accrual journal entries, prepaids and estimated expense accruals.
- Complete monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, prepaid expenses, accruals, inventories and all other balance sheet accounts.
- Maintain the fixed asset subledger, including capitalizing newly acquired medical equipment, tracking depreciation, and recording asset disposals and retirements.
- Review and preparation of reports for Sales and Use tax reporting.
- Assist with monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Conduct variance analysis to compare actual departmental expenses against the approved hospital budget.
- Assist in the compilation of data required for annual Medicare and Medicaid cost reports, income tax preparation, and property tax rendition.
- Prepare detailed schedules, workpapers, and documentation for internal and external annual financial audits.
- Ensure all accounting procedures comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant healthcare financial regulations.
- Strictly adhere to HIPAA regulations regarding the confidentiality and security of any patient-identifiable financial information.
