STARTING SALARY: $61,000 - $83,100    Salary is commensurate with experience.     

JOB FAMILY SUMMARY PURPOSE:  

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor – Energy Accounting, is responsible for performing various non-routine professional accounting functions and for the verification and analysis of daily power and fuel (energy) transactions and power interchanges, maintaining documentation, and preparing and distributing internal and external financial reports and statements, financial analysis, and account reconciliations. Additional responsibilities include the preparation of financial statements, schedules, reconciliations, invoices, and billing correspondence.

 MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 

  1. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and State Commissions (Texas Public Utility Commission and New Mexico Public Regulation Commission) accounting procedures and reporting practices.
  2. Ability to prepare financial reports and statements and effectively research, analyze, and interpret accounting pronouncements, exposure drafts, and regulatory rules and regulations.
  3. Ability to operate a personal computer and software applications, such as Excel, Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and Oracle.
  4. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with officers, managers, fellow employees, and the general public.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:      

  1. Perform various non-routine professional financial accounting and reporting functions.
  2. Analyze financial information and prepare various financial reports and statements.
  3. Compile and analyze financial information to prepare numerous journal entries in compliance with the Uniform System of Accounts and into the Company accounting system, monthly ledger system closing, and other related accounting records.
  4. Reconciles purchases and sales on an hourly, daily, and monthly basis; and prepares related journal entries for monthly closing.
  5. Ability to prepare invoices for payment or billing to other utilities on wholesale energy purchases or sales and transmission purchases.
  6. Ability to prepare the transaction section of the FERC Electric Quarterly (E.Q.R.) Report.
  7. Assist in the administration and compliance of energy and transmission contracts.
  8. Prepare portions of FERC Form 1, FERC Form 3-Q, and E.I.A. monthly and annual reports.
  9. Prepare and/or review accounting schedules required for rate case filings in Texas, New Mexico, and FERC.
  10. Assist with the preparation of regulatory testimony, interrogatories, cross examination questions, and review of orders.
  11. Prepare and/or review work papers and other information provided to outside audit firms for their quarterly reviews, annual audits, and various consulting activities.
  12. Keep abreast of regulatory changes in financial reporting requirements by reviewing accounting pronouncements, regulations, and other professional publications.
  13. Recommend changes to the supervisor on improving methods, procedures, and practices within the section.
  14. Complies with all applicable Company policies, procedures, and code of ethics, as well as all applicable governmental laws and regulations, including employment, safety, and environmental standards and regulations.
