Introduction

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA) serves as one of the largest revenue sources for the State of Maryland, supporting important state programs and services including education, public health and safety, human resources and the environment. In addition to generating revenue from the sale of lottery products, the MLGCA is also responsible for the oversight of the state’s casino gaming program, providing direction and guidance to its casino partners on financial, security, regulatory and licensing procedures for the facilities. The Agency also regulates Sports Wagering, Daily Fantasy Sports and Electronic Bingo, as well as Instant Ticket Lottery Machines, which are located at almost 90 Veteran’s posts. Gaming in Maryland is a dynamic and growing business that operates around the clock, 365 days of the year.

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to assist and support the VLT Accountant Supervisor with the day-to day operations of the Video Lottery Terminal (VLT) activity that occurs in the VLT facilities. This includes the daily calculation and reconciliation of the gross terminal revenue and table game revenue. Review and release licensing batches for the cost of licensing background investigations and prepare reports for submission to various entities. This function helps to ensure the VLT revenues/income transferred to the State of Maryland and other entities as prescribed by law is accurate and that all costs that are reimbursable to the Lottery are billed and collected, thereby positively impacting the Maryland economy. This position is responsible for assisting with the collection, deposit, and reconciliation of Video Lottery Terminals (VLT) facility payments in accordance with applicable law and recognition of VLT activity in the agency’s general ledger.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum (and selective) qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.  Experience: Three years of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles. 
Notes:  1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with thirty credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing for the required education.  2. Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.  3. Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.  4. Applicants may substitute one year of professional auditing experience for one year of the required experience. 5. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Accounting Officer classification or Financial Management specialty codes in the Accounting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
1. Experience in Casino Financial Operations.  2. Experience processing financial  account reconciliations.  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel.
